You may be aware
that Ramakrishna Math and Mission, a non-profit making
voluntary organization with 156 branches in India and abroad,
is engaged in various welfare works throughout the country
with the objective of uplifting the backward and poorer
section of the society irrespective of caste, creed and
religion. With this aim a centre was started at Kalady,
Kerala, the sacred birthplace of Sri Shankaracharya, in 1936.
Our activities at Kalady are
oriented mostly in educational field. We have been doing this
against many odds for the past seventy years. For financing
our projects we have to rely almost entirely on the devotees,
friends, well wishers and various other charitable trusts and
corporate institutions.
Following welfare activities for
the poor and backward class people are being done through this
branch center of Ramakrishna Math & Mission (H.O.: Belur Math,
Howrah): 1. A free hostel for 150 boys of S.C./S.T. /OBC and
orphan students; 2) Schools from Primary to Higher Secondary
levels with nearly 1500 students; 3) A Vocational Training
Institute for S.C. students, 4) Creche for S.C. children; 5)
Tailoring School for Women; 6) Library & Reading Room etc.
Presently,
there is an urgent need of extensive repair, renovation and
extension of the old buildings, constructing new classrooms
along with other facilities to accommodate nearly 2000
students in different sections of the institution, which have
been in service for many decades.
